UP 1409, built in September 1965, was one of 360 SD35 six-axle 2500 hp diesel locomotives and 35 steam generator-equipped SDP35 locomotives produced by EMD between 1964 and 1966. There are a few SD-35 units still in service and a preserved SDP-35 is on display in Hamlet, North Carolina.
