KCS 4813 was one of 1143 3000 hp 4-axle GP40-2 “Dash 2” diesel locomotives produced by EMD for North American railroads between 1972 and 1986. A large number are still in service.
ATLAS 10000987 museum-like quality HO scale GP40-2 Master Series Gold is QSI sound decoder equipped. Its many features include a realistic die-cast under-frame, a five-pole skewed armature motor with dual flywheels for optimum performance at all speeds, directional lighting, golden-white LEDs, low nose gyralight, and factory-equipped AccuMate® knuckle couplers.
Additional features include detailed cab interior with crew, separately-installed scale windshield wipers, metal grab irons and fine scale handrails, movable drop steps, walkway safety tread, coupler cut bars, multiple unit hoses and train-line hoses, and a snowplow.
Also included where appropriate (as per the prototype) are etched metal radiator and dynamic brake fans, dynamic brake options (standard range, extended range or non-dynamic brake hatch), 2,600 or 3,600 gallon fuel tank, and early Blomberg or Blomberg Type-M trucks.
QSI Quantum System Sound Decoder features: ATLAS 10000987 HO Master Series Gold comes equipped with an electronic Dual-Mode® decoder (e-DMD) that allows your locomotive to run in DCC or traditional DC. QSI features include a dual speaker system, authentic diesel engine sounds, squealing brakes, Doppler Effect, air let-off in neutral, coupler impact sounds when operated with DCC, and helper mode that mutes the whistle and bell for double heading.
Note: It is not possible to MU sound and non-sound-equipped locomotives in DC (analog) mode.
