Historical Information: Dash 8-40CW diesel locomotives were produced by GE between 1989 and 1994. The “W” designation stands for wide-nose North American Safety Cab. These 6-axle 4000 hp CW40-8 engines are still in service today in North America.
Atlas HO Scale Dash 8-40CW Master Series Gold is QSI Titan Sound equipped. Its many features include a five-pole skewed armature motor with dual flywheels for optimum performance at all speeds, directional lighting, and factory-equipped AccuMate® knuckle couplers. Additional features include a realistic die-cast under-frame, ditch lights, painted crew members, separately-installed scale windshield wipers, metal grab irons and fine scale handrails, highly detailed coupler cut bars, multiple unit hoses and train-line hoses, snowplow, piping on trucks, and a coupler pocket designed to accept AccuMate® Photo-couplers. Also featured are number boards, sand-fill hatch, and marker lights where appropriate by railroad.
QSI Titan Sound Technology features include second generation sound processor for an increase in sound quality and variety. Features also include electronic Dual-Mode® decoder (e-DMD) that allows your locomotive to run in DCC or traditional DC. Additional features include 64 simultaneous sound channels and also the ability to cut, paste and upgrade to new sounds with the Quantum Programmer (sold separately).
Note: It is not possible to MU sound and non-sound-equipped locomotives in DC (analog) mode.
