Historical Information: Over 2700 four-axle 1500 hp GP-7 diesel-electric locomotives were produced by EMD between 1949 and 1954. The GP-7 was the main freight power through the 1960s and was used in local and switching service in the 1970s and 1980s. Many were rebuilt and are still in service on short lines.
This Atlas HO scale Classic Series Silver locomotive is DCC-READY with a NMRA 8-pin plug for easy DCC decoder installation. The many features of the locomotive include a five-pole skewed armature motor with dual flywheels for optimum performance at all speeds, directional lighting, golden-white LEDs, factory-equipped AccuMate® knuckle couplers, fine scale handrails and stanchions, painted hand rails, separately-applied wire grab irons, MU hoses and coupler cut bars, two painted crew members, and an optional 800 gallon or 1600 gallon fuel tank
