Product Description

Historical Information: GE introduced the 3,300hp, four-axle U33B locomotive in September 1967. 137 units were produced until August 1970 when production ended. GE upped the horsepower ante in 1970 with the introduction of the 3,600hp U36B which was produced between May 1970 and December 1974. Both models were externally identical.

This Atlas HO Scale Master Series Gold locomotive is LokSound equipped. The many features of the locomotive include a five pole skewed armature motor with dual flywheels for optimum performance at all speeds, directional lighting with golden-white LEDs, blackened metal wheels, and separately-applied scale detail parts including windshield wipers, metal grab irons, coupler cut levers, multiple-unit hoses, train line hoses, fine scale handrails, drop steps etc.

Additional features, depending on prototype, include flush-mounted radiator screens and air intake screens on the long hood (early phase), built-out area on the top of the front and rear pilots (early phase), corrugated radiator and air intake screens, with a flat pilot face (late phase), optional separate electrical equipment box will be included on the left side walkway behind the cab (per the prototype), and AAR-B or Blomberg trucks will be used (when appropriate).

LokSound features include a dual-mode decoder that allows your locomotive to be used on DC as well as on DCC layouts. Sound functionality includes over 20 sound effects (including engine start-up and shutdown, prime mover sounds through all eight notches, bell, air horn, air compressor, dynamic brakes and more), 16 user-selectable horns, 2 user-selectable bells, and 2 user-selectable synchronized brake squeals. Also featured are manual and automatic notching modes with the ability to change modes on the fly for true realism.

DCC operation features also support all DCC-programming modes, flexible mapping of function keys F0 to F28, a total of six DCC function outputs, and follows all NMRA DCC standards and recommended practices.

Please note that the Atlas Quantum Engineer will NOT operate an Atlas Gold Series locomotive equipped with a LokSound Select decoder on an analog (DC) layout. However, the sound and lighting functions of the LokSound Select decoder in the Atlas Gold Series locomotive can be controlled by an easy-to-use basic DCC system.

Also note that on a DC-powered layout, a DCC and sound equipped locomotive CANNOT be consisted with another locomotive that does not also have both DCC and sound. (This statement does NOT apply to DCC-equipped locomotives operating on a DCC layout.)
