Historical Information: This Atlas model represents one of 34 four-axle 3000 hp GP40-2 diesel locomotives produced by EMD in 1976 with the CN designed safety cab. The GP40-2(W) safety cab featured a full-width nose to improve crew safety.
This HO scale Atlas GP40-2(W) Master Series Silver locomotive is DCC-READY and comes with a NMRA 8-pin plug for easy DCC/Sound decoder installation.
The many features of this model include a realistic die-cast under-frame, a five-pole skewed armature motor with dual flywheels for optimum performance at all speeds, directional lighting, golden-white LEDs, and factory-equipped AccuMate® knuckle couplers.
Additional features include detailed cab interior with crew, separately-installed scale windshield wipers, metal grab irons and fine scale handrails, movable drop steps, walkway safety tread, coupler cut levers, multiple unit hoses and train-line hoses, and a snowplow.
Also included where appropriate (as per the prototype) are etched metal radiator fan grilles, 3,000 gallon fuel tank, ditch lights, snow shields, round or square sand fill hatches, cab-mounted bell, and a three-chime air horn mounted on the cab or long hood.
