Historical Information: GP38-2 (4-axle 2000hp) diesel-electric locomotives were produced by EMD between 1972 and 1986. The Dash 2 was designed for increased traction and reduced emissions and is one of the most successful locomotives ever built.
This Atlas N scale GP38-2 locomotive is ESU LokSound equipped. The many features of the locomotive include a Scale Speed™ motor, directional lighting, blackened metal wheels, factory-equipped AccuMate® magnetic knuckle couplers, golden-white LEDs, painted safety rails, and separately applied coupler cut levers.
DCC operation features support all DCC-programming modes, includes RailCom and RailComPlus, with 14, 28, or 128 speed steps and with 2-digit and 4-digit addressing, flexible mapping of function keys F0 to F28, a total of 4 DCC function outputs, and follows all NMRA DCC standards and recommended practices.
Sound functionality features include over 20 sound effects including engine start-up and shutdown, prime mover sounds through all eight notches, bell, air horn, air compressor, dynamic brakes and more. There are 16 user-selectable horns, 2 user-selectable bells, and 2 user-selectable synchronized brake squeals. Features also include manual and automatic notching modes with the ability to change modes ”on the fly” for true realism.
