Historical Information: 239 four-axle 2300 hp GP39-2 diesel locomotives were produced by EMD between 1974 and 1984. The turbocharged GP39-2 was a fuel-efficient alternative to the GP38-2 with the additional benefit of improved operation at higher altitudes.
This Atlas Trainman HO scale GP39-2 Classic Silver locomotive comes with the same drive as the Atlas Master Series. It is also DCC-READY and comes with a NMRA 8-pin plug for easy DCC/Sound installation. The many features of the locomotive include a five-pole skewed armature motor with dual flywheels, separately applied handrails and end railings, locating dimples for grab irons, true scale dimensions with accurate details, realistic die-cast under-frame, and AccuMate® couplers. Also featured is a 2600- or 3600-gallon fuel tank, depending on the prototype.
